Stealth President and General Manager Johnny Mouradian Inducted to Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame

Washington Stealth President and General Manager Johnny Mouradian was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame last weekend in Burnaby, British Columbia. It is the sixth Hall of Fame induction of Mouradian’s illustrious career, including his second into the Canadian Hall.
Mouradian started playing lacrosse as a box player in St. Catharines, Ontario
in the 1970s. He went on to play
the field game at Ithaca College (NY) where he was a team captain and All-Star
attackman. He represented Canada
twice in international play, winning the bronze medal in 1974 and taking home
the gold in 1978 for Canada’s first World field lacrosse title.
Mouradian continued playing club lacrosse in Niagara and Oshawa in the 1980s,
winning four Ontario field lacrosse championships. He went on to become a coach and organizer for a number of
field lacrosse programs in Canada. He was head coach of the 1985 Canadian
National Team and on the coaching staffs of four Canadian National Field
lacrosse teams that participated in the World Championships 1982 Baltimore
Maryland, 1986 Toronto, Canada, 1990 Perth, Australia and 1998 Baltimore,
Maryland. He continues to serve as
Team Canada’s general manager.
Mouradian was General Manager of the Canadian National Indoor Lacrosse Heritage
Cup team in 2002 and 2004. In 2003, he was general manager of the Canadian
National Indoor Lacrosse team that won the inaugural World Indoor Championships
and Chairman of the Canadian National Indoor Team the won the World Indoor
Championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 2007.
Mouradian has also served in a variety of management roles with other NLL
teams. He was general manager for the Buffalo Bandits, Ontario Raiders/Toronto
Rock and the Ottawa Rebel. In addition, Mouradian won eight Professional World
Indoor Championships in various roles as a team executive, general manager and
shareholder (Buffalo in 1992, 1993 and 1996; and Toronto in 1999, 2000, 2002,
2003 and 2005). In 2003, Mouradian was General Manager of the Year for the
National Lacrosse League.
Mouradian is a member of five halls of fame: the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame
(1998), Ithaca College (2000), St. Catharines Hall of Fame (2008), National
Lacrosse League Hall of Fame and now twice inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse
Hall of Fame, as a member of the 1978 Canadian National Team and a field player.
At the event, Mouradian was reunited with former teammates, coaches and players
including a number of members of the Washington Stealth organization.
“Field lacrosse continues to grow in Canada and I feel very privileged that I
had an opportunity to assist with that growth,” said Mouradian following the
event. “Spending the weekend
reunited with our 1978 Head Coach Bob Allan and some of our players from that
world championship team was special. We had too much fun!”
Mouradian and the Stealth now gear up for training camp for the upcoming 2010
season. Training camp is schedule
to begin in December with the inaugural season at the Comcast Arena begins on
January 9 against the Colorado Mammoth.
