Duch Named to Final Team Canada Roster

Washington Stealth star forward, Rhys Duch was named to Team Canada’s final 24-man roster yesterday.  Team Canada will look to defend their 2006 gold medal at the 2010 World Field Lacrosse Championships in Manchester, England this summer.

Duch will be making his first appearance at the World Championships for Team Canada.  He is the reigning National Lacrosse League Rookie of the Year, after setting a new rookie scoring record with 89 points in 2009.  In 2010, Duch has continued to excel for the Stealth with 41 points (15g, 26a) in nine games.

While he is proving to be one of indoor lacrosse’s brightest young stars, Duch is also no stranger to the field game.  He played his collegiate lacrosse at NCAA Division I Stony Brook University, where he was a two-time all-conference selection.  His senior season he was fifth in the nation with two assists per game and finished his career ranked 14^th all-time with 106 points.

Duch will join Team Canada in Manchester, England from July 10-24 to defend their 2006 title.  They dethroned the US National Team, who had won the previous six World Championships.  It was the first gold medal for Canada since 1978.

Duch’s Stealth teammates, Paul Rabil and Eric Martin are among the 24 players representing the US National Team this summer.

The Federation of International Lacrosse is gearing up for the biggest World Lacrosse Championships to date.  In 2010, there will be 31 teams competing for the title.  For more information on the FIL World Lacrosse Championships and the participating nations, go to www.2010worldlacrosse.com.
