Cosmo Traded
The San Jose Stealth completed two trades this week which freshened their roster and allowed them more options in the future. The team dealt All-Star goalie Anthony Cosmo to Chicago for their goalie, Matt Roik. The Stealth also netted the Shamrox's first- round pick in September 6-7 entry draft and Chicago's first rounder in 2009. In another move, San Jose traded defense man Paul Dawson to the expansion Boston Blazers in exchange for forward Peter Veltman. Taken by the Blazers in the dispersal draft, Veltman now returns to San Jose, where he scored 34 points (17 goals and 17 assists) in 13 games last season. At goalie, the Stealth now has three promising players - Aaron Bold, who helped them win a game against the New York Titans last year with a standout performance, Tyler Richards, who won rookie of the year honors this summer with the New Westminister Salmon Bellies of Canada's Western Lacrosse League and now Roik, who started last year for the Shamrox.? Roik has been a starter in the NLL since 2002 with the New Jersey Storm; he has also been the starting goalie for the Anaheim Storm, Philadelphia Wings and last season the Chicago Shamrox. Roik was picked up mid season by the 1-6 Shamrox. Roik posted a 5-3 record and ranked fourth in the league with a .788 save percentage. Roik and Richards are also teammates this summer for the Salmon Bellies. New Westminister is in the finals of the Mann Cup, the honor that's bestowed upon Canada's winning box lacrosse team. The Stealth will get even younger with an infusion of talent San Jose will get now with the second and third overall choices in next month's entry draft. "We are really happy with both deals," Stealth president and general manager Johnny Mouradian said.
