Game preview: Rock @ Stealth

It’s an all-Canadian matchup Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre between the Vancouver Stealth (3-9) and the Toronto Rock (3-9). The Rock lead the season series 1-0 after beating the Stealth by a score of 9-6 on March 13 at Air Canada Centre.

Both teams enter into the LEC coming off losses in week 13. The Rock lost a home and home set to the Saskatchewan Rush 11-9 (Friday) and 13-8 (Saturday), while the Stealth dropped a 17-10 decision to the Buffalo Bandits.

In the last two games, Stealth Head Coach Jamie Batley has liked what he has seen from his team for three quarters, but wants to see improvement in the final 15 minutes.

“We played two of the best teams in the league (Saskatchewan & Buffalo) and kept up with them for three quarters. We have made some mistakes in the fourth quarter that have been mental errors, and we have to fix that,” said Batley.

Two players to watch in the game is Rhys Duch and Rob Hellyer, who are both enjoying fantastic seasons and lead their respective teams in scoring. Duch has been on a goal scoring spree registering consecutive sock-tricks (6 goals) and has a total of 18 points in his last two games. He currently leads the team in goals (33) and points (70). Hellyer has a total of 75 points this year, which puts him fifth in NLL scoring and has put up at least five points in eight straight games.

The Stealth begin their busiest month of the season with six games in 29 days. Three will take place at home, while the other three are on the road.

“Moving forward, our team has to realize we have a good team and if we play together, we are going to be successful. I think it is just a matter of time until that happens. Getting that one win is going to help everybody,” Batley said. “We just have to learn from our mistakes.”

It is a 7:00pm start time from the Langley Events Centre. Come early for the pre-game party held in the fully licensed LEC Banquet Hall beginning at 5:30pm. Listen to the music, watch the east coast NLL game, and enjoy drinks and a special prime rib dinner for just $18.00.

Following the game, BC youth lacrosse players will be invited down to the turf to play with the Stealth where they will have the chance to shoot on a Stealth goalie, pass the ball with a Stealth player, get autographs and other lacrosse activities as a part of the ‘Stealth Experience’. All BCLA players wearing their jerseys will receive free entry into the game.
