Lumberjax Cut Down Stealth, 16-13

With the scored tied at three after one quarter of play, the Portland Lumberjax went on a 5-0 run to open the second from which the San Jose Stealth could not recover. The Lumberjax went on to win 16-13 in front of 6,943 fans at the Rose Garden Arena. Colin Doyle started the scoring thirty seconds into the game. Jeff Zywicki scored twice in the opening frame as the teams headed into the second quarter tied at three. The second belonged to the Jax, as they scored five unanswered to start the quarter. Frank Resetarits scored in the closing minutes of the first half to make the score 8-4 at the break. Portland lead by as many as six in the third quarter, but fought back with three straight goals to cut the lead to 10-7 with five minutes left in the third. In the final minute of the quarter, however, the Lumberjax scored back-to-back goals to take a 12-7 lead heading into the final stanza. Kyle Sorensen scored a spectacular goal just thirty seconds into the fourth that gave some life to the Stealth squad for the stretch run. They were able to get within two goals with just over five minutes left in regulation with the score 14-12. But two straight from the Jax closed the door on the Stealth comeback as they went on to the 16-13 victory. Doyle finished with two goals and four assists. Rhys Duch registered six points on the evening with a goal and five assists. Zywicki recorded a hat trick and Resetarits tallied a pair of goals. Eric Martin finished with a goal, two assists and eight loose balls. Kyle Hartzell led the team with nine loose balls. Matt Roik made 24 saves in the loss. Ryan Powell earned game MVP honors for the Lumberjax with three goals and two assists. Reigning NLL Player of the Week Matt Disher made 45 saves in goal.
