Q and A with rookie Evan Messenger

Evan Messenger was selected in the 4th round (39th overall) by the Stealth at the 2015 NLL Entry Draft. Messenger suited up for his hometown Delta Jr. A Islanders of the British Columbia Jr. A Lacrosse League this past season. He finished top 10 in league scoring with 26 goals and 36 assists for 62 points in 16 games. Evan has been a prolific scorer in his three seasons with the Islanders racking up 240 points in 68 total games and hopes to land a roster spot on the Stealth this upcoming season. Below is an exchange Messenger had with stealthlax.com:

VS: Who was your lacrosse idol growing up and why?

EM: Casey Powell. He has an amazing playing style and knows how to put the ball in the net.

VS: At what age did you realize you had a knack for lacrosse?

EM: Novice.

VS: What was your reaction on draft day when you found out you were selected by your hometown NLL team?

EM: It was an absolute dream come true! Couldn’t be any happier.

VS: Have you been to many Stealth games? If so, did you ever fantasize about suiting up for them one day?

EM: I have been to tons of games and I’ve always wanted to run out of that tunnel with guys in front of my family and the fans.

VS: What is your favourite lacrosse memory?

EM: Besides being drafted to the Stealth, I would have to say winning back to back gold medals at the Best of the West tournament with my team in Las Vegas.

VS: What is your go to pre-game meal?

EM: Chicken and rice and of course my protein shake.

VS: Besides the NLL, what is your favourite professional sports league, and who is your favourite athlete right now?

EM: I would have to say the NFL. LeBron James is my favourite athlete.

VS: Explain to Stealth fans what they can expect from you?

EM: Stealth fans can expect a guy who has a strong work ethic with tenacious play and hopefully put up some points.

VS: Describe a typical day for Evan Messenger?

EM: Work, go to the gym, eat a lot and hang out with my friends.

VS: Is there a certain player or two you are looking forward to meeting and playing with at training camp?

EM: The roster is full of so many talented players, I just can’t wait to get out there with all them.
