Vancouver, BC (Friday, December 8, 2017) – The Vancouver Stealth (0-1) dropped their home opener to the Colorado Mammoth (1-0), 15-8.
The Mammoth opened the scoring nearly three minutes into the first quarter when Justin Salt and Logan Schuss answered back for the Stealth. The teams traded goals ending the first, tied 5-5. The goals dried up for Vancouver, while Colorado was able to score four in the second and six in the third while the Stealth were only able to muster three goals in the final 30 minutes.
“We have a long way to go, I thought we were going to have a good game tonight, we matched up really well against these guys,” said Head Coach and Assistant General Manager Jamie Batley. “They had some guys who were out of the line up and we needed to refocus and put a little more pressure on them.”
Although the Stealth were able to put 56 shots on goal, the majority came from the outside and were not much of a risk for Dillon Ward. The reigning NLL Goaltender of the Year was able to stop 48 shots, including an 18-save performance in the second quarter.
“It was not the outcome we were looking for, but you cannot dwell on the negatives, there were lots of positives to take out of the game,” said Andrew Suitor. “We need to get back in the gym, we need to look at the tape and if everyone eliminates one mistake, we will be better prepared Calgary next week.”
Vancouver now shifts their focus to the Roughnecks. They visit Calgary on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 6:00pm. In 2017, the Stealth went 3-1 against the Roughnecks including 2-0 inside the Saddledome. After the trip to Cowtown, the Stealth visit the Blackwolves, in their only trip to New England in the regular season. That game takes place December 29, 2017 at 4:30pm.
The Stealth return home on January 6, 2018 in an West vs East match up against the Toronto Rock. Tickets to the game are still available including single game tickets, stocking stuff two-game flex packs and Boston Pizza Holiday Packs, which feature four tickets, one large pizza, four soft drinks and a cactus cut appetizer for $99 at all local Boston Pizzas.
