Stealth fall 9-8 to Calgary Roughnecks

The Vancouver Stealth faced off against the Calgary Roughnecks in preseason play on Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre Fieldhouse.

The Stealth started a split squad, playing each half with a different roster while Calgary, only travelling with 18 runners, played close to what looks like an opening day roster.

It was a rough start for the Stealth as Calgary jumped out to an early 8-2 first half lead. Stealth goalies, Roik and Richards were in tough as Dobbie led the way for Calgary with 3 goals and 3 assists in the first half, while also getting goals from McFetridge, Reinholdt, Snider, Dinsdale and Veltman. Stealth goals came from Captain Kyle Sorenson and Josh Hawkins, who scored in his first competitive box lacrosse game.

In the 2nd half, the Stealth came to life and rallied behind strong efforts from Rhys Duch and Cliff Smith. Duch and Smith led the charge with 3 points each, while Shewchuck had 3 points of his own. The Stealth also had goals from Dobray, Lundstrom, Hill and Hickey.

The Stealth’s rally fell short however, as Calgary squeaked out the victory, hanging on to win 9-8. Calgary returns to Vancouver in the regular season on March 21.
