Vancouver, BC (Saturday, March 14, 2015) –The Vancouver Stealth were in tough against the Edmonton Rush, falling 19-7 at Rexall Place on Saturday night.
Rhys Duch had a team-high 5 points (3g, 2a) while Tyler Digby, Corey Small, Joel McCready and Johnny Powless each scored 3 points in the loss.
Mark Matthews led the way for the Rush with 9 points (4g, 5a) while Robert Church and Cory Conway chipped in with 6 points.
Vancouver dug themselves a hole early and were unable to dig themselves out of it as Edmonton jumped out to a 3-0 lead before McCready scored midway through the opening quarter. The second quarter saw Duch score just 30 seconds in, cutting the Rush lead to 4-2 but that’s as close as Vancouver would get as Edmonton headed into halftime up 9-4.
The second half was more of the same as the Rush scored 10 goals in the final 30 minutes while holding the high-powered Stealth offense to 3.
Vancouver’s Mitch McMichael had one of his best games from the face-off circle, winning 18 of 31 draws. The Stealth were 2 for 6 on the man advantage with powerplay markers from Digby and transition player Justin Salt.
The two teams will meet twice more this season when they play a home-and-home on back-to-back nights on April 3 and 4.
The Stealth’s next home game is this Saturday when they host the Colorado Mammoth on March 21. It’s BC Lacrosse Association Night (BCLA) where the team will be wearing special edition BCLA jersey’s, sponsored by Mike Vanichuk Transport, which fans will be able to bid on before and during the game. The jerseys will be given away after the game. Proceeds will be going to the BCLA’s Lacrosse on the Move Fund.
