Vancouver, BC (Sunday, April 12, 2015) –The Vancouver Stealth look to get back into the playoff picture as they wrap up their East Coast trip with a matchup against the New England Black Wolves at 10:00AM PST at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
The Stealth are tied with Calgary and with a win today will move ahead of the Roughnecks for the third and final playoff spot in the West Division. Vancouver also has the advantage with a game in hand on Calgary.
The Stealth didn’t get the result they were looking for in their last game when they dropped a 14-7 contest to the Toronto Rock on Friday night. Rhys Duch and Corey Small each had three points and Logan Schuss and Tyler Digby chipped in with two points each in a losing cause. Eric Penney made 31 saves as the rookie made his third straight start with Tyler Richards still on the injured reserve list.
“As long as we do all the little things, stick together and play fundamental lacrosse, we’re going to get the goal we want here,” said Stealth forward Joel McCready.
New England is still mathematically alive in the East playoff race as they look to put some pressure on the Buffalo Bandits, who are holding down the third and final playoff spot in the division.
The Black Wolves will try and use some momentum from their last game as they defeated the Bandits 12-11 on April 4 in Buffalo. Newly acquired Garrett Billings had four points in the win while goaltender Evan Kirk turned aside 47 of 58 shots he faced.
“Coming off the injury I hadn’t played in a full year,” said Billings. “My goal is to get out there and get the rust off. Working with new teammates can be a challenge but I thought it went pretty well last weekend.”
“Both teams are and should be playing with desperation and urgency,” said Black Wolves Head Coach Blaine Harrison. “We consider every game from this point a must win game.”
Vancouver will be without defenseman Rory Smith, who will begin serving his two game suspension today. He will miss next Saturday’s game against Rochester and will be eligible to play against Buffalo on Saturday, April 25.
