Stealth Re-Sign 6 & Ink 7 Free Agents

Vancouver, BC (Tuesday, August 2, 2016) –  The Vancouver Stealth announced today that they have signed returning players Keegan Bal, Brandon Clelland, Travis Cornwall, Cody Hagedorn and Chris O’Dougherty to one year contracts and Jarrett Toll to a two-year agreement. All six players were on the 2016 Stealth roster. In addition, the Stealth inked seven free agents to one year contracts. Signed today were Justin Goodwin, Jordan McBride, Evan Messenger, Tyson Roe, Billy Saxton, Dane Sorensen and Tanner Theede. All 13 contracts are pending league approval.

 Evan Messenger: Delta, BC, Forward, 6’1, 205lbs.
 Tyson Roe: Duncan, BC, Defense/Transition, 6’10, 250lbs.
 Billy Saxton: Niagara on the Lake, ON, Defense/Transition 6’0, 220lbs.
 Dane Sorensen: Victoria, BC, Forward, 6’0, 200lbs.
 Tanner Theede: Whitby, ON, Defense, 6’2, 225lbs.

“Both Jamie (Batley) and I have spent a lot of time so far this summer identifying players whom we feel fit the style we plan to play in the coming season, and we are extremely excited about the group we added to our roster today,” said President and General Manager Doug Locker. “We have a lot more work to do and are looking at adding a few more players in the upcoming weeks. We are always looking at ways to improve our club especially heading into the 2017 season,” Locker continued.

Bal played in eight games in his rookie season last year and scored 16 points and had 21 loose balls.

In his first season with the Stealth in 2016, Cornwall had five goals, eleven points and 74 loose balls. He was originally drafted by Calgary in 2011 where he went on to play 28 regular season games. In the last five seasons with the Coquitlam Adanacs of the WLA he has 29 goals and 82 points while putting up 72 penalty minutes. Chris O’Dougherty is a seven-year veteran in the NLL. Last season he played in 18 games for the Stealth and had six points and 48 loose balls. In the last three seasons he has played in 18 games for the Burnaby Lakers of the WLA where he had 25 penalty minutes and four points in his role as a defender. O’Dougherty is a former bronze medal recipient at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships.

Brandon Clelland spent the majority of the 2016 season on the practice roster but did appear in four games where he collected 13 loose balls and had two penalty minutes. Cody Hagedorn’s time as a Vancouver Stealth has mostly been on the practice roster. In 2015, he dressed in four regular season games and appeared in one.

Messenger a Delta, BC native was originally drafted by the club 39th overall in 2015. He is coming off a tremendous year scoring 41 goals and 96 points in 20 games in the BCJALL. Messenger helped lead Delta into the 2016 Minto Cup. Messenger was a Top 20 player in goals, assists and points in the BCJALL. He earned the John Urban Award for top Graduating Player and was named to the 1st Team All Star.

While Defender Tyson Roe is 6’10” and 250lbs. In 2014, he was drafted 16th overall by Calgary and has played the last two years with the Nanaimo Timbermen of the WLA where he notched five goals and 12 points in 30 games.

Forward Dane Sorensen is currently in his first season with the New Westminster Salmonbellies where he has scored 20 goals and 33 points in 18 games. Sorensen was drafted 16th overall. McBride also a member of the Salmonbellies scored 21 goals and added 48 points in 16 games this season in the WLA. Goodwin is a three-year veteran for New West where he has posted 22 points in 17 games in 2016.
