Stealth Set to Open 2017 Season

HeaderVancouver, BC (Thursday, January 5, 2017) – The Vancouver Stealth will open their 2017 National Lacrosse League season in back-to-back games this weekend.

The Stealth head into 2017 with an upgraded defense after acquiring John Lintz and Peter McFetridge in the offseason. Lintz is a veteran of 99 games and has won 3 Champion’s Cups. While McFetridge has appeared in 110 games and won a Champion’s Cup in 2009. Offensively, the team is led by Rhys Duch who scored 48 goals and 63 assists for 111 points and Logan Schuss who scored 29 goals and 57 assists for 86 points.

“We are a talented team and one of the main things we have been working on is how to complement each other’s strengths while building a cohesive team,” said Logan Schuss. “We are looking forward to starting the season on a positive note.”

In game one, the Stealth visit the Roughnecks inside the Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday, January 6, 2017, at 6pm PST. Last year the teams split their season series 2-2. The franchises have played 19 games all-time in Calgary with Vancouver holding the edge 10-9.

The Stealth will travel to Colorado on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 6:00pm PST, to take on a Mammoth team that defeated the Buffalo Bandits 12-8 in last week’s season opener. Colorado is led by Callum Crawford who had 115 points in the 2016 season and scored 2 goals and 3 assists in their win over Buffalo.

Vancouver opened training camp in late November where the coaching staff had a major focus on fitness and conditioning.

“We feel we have a good starting point with how we worked at camp,” said Curtis Hodgson. “I think the goal is simple, we need to make the playoffs. Our principles are hard work, respect and teamwork. We need to stick with those principles and focus on getting better each week.”

Both road games can be seen live on NLL TV for free and heard online at http://www.tsn.ca/radio/vancouver-1040-i-1410/listen-live. The games will be rebroadcasted later in the evening on TSN1410.

The Stealth’s Home Opener will take place on January 14, 2017 against the Calgary Roughnecks at the Langley Events Centre. Tickets are available at the Langley Events Centre Box Office at 604-882-8800 or visit Ticket Rocket.co or email support@TicketRocket.co.
