Stealth Wrap up Scrimmages, Happy with Overall Effort

Vancouver, BC (Tuesday, December 09, 2014) – The Vancouver Stealth got their first taste of in-game action with the new look squad as they prepare for the 2015 NLL season. Despite losing both games over the weekend, the coaching staff and players liked what they saw.

“It’s our first time competing against different colour jerseys,” said forward Rhys Duch. “We were on the short end of the score but I thought we took away a lot of good things. We had a lot of good chances on offense but those need to go in moving forward. There were some holes on defense but its’ to be expected; overall it was a pretty positive experience.”

“We had a good look at a lot of our players,” Head Coach Dan Perreault. “They got to go up against some pretty good teams. It was totally different than our practices, which is what we needed.”

The Stealth lost 13-6 to the Edmonton Rush on Saturday evening in front of a full crowd inside the Langley Events Centre Fieldhouse. The following day, Vancouver rounded out their scrimmage schedule with a morning matchup against the Colorado Mammoth. The game was tied 3-3 at halftime before Colorado scored eleven goals in the second half to pull away 14-11 at the LEC Fieldhouse.

“That’s the reason we’re having the scrimmages,” said Perreault. “We get a good look opposed to the practices. Some guys are going to have to step it up a bit. They’re going to have to separate themselves to be on the team.”

“We just need to build a little bit more chemistry,” said Johnny Powless. “It was good to get out with the guys and play against different teams.”

“Everyone’s real optimistic,” said forward Joel McCready. “We’re still getting to know each other and each other’s tendencies.”

The Stealth resume training camp this weekend with three more sessions. On Saturday the team will hold a morning and evening session. The first time slot is from 9:00AM-11:00AM and the team will wrap up on Saturday night with another practice from 5:00PM-7:00PM. Vancouver’s final session of the weekend is a Sunday session from 9:00AM-11:00AM. All scrimmages are at the LEC Fieldhouse.

The Stealth made eight roster cuts this week. The team will be making more after this weekend’s scrimmages and will narrow down the roster to the league required 24 players by Thursday, December 18.
