Win over the Rush extra special for Corey Small

Friday night’s win in Saskatchewan was both a relief and exciting for the Stealth organization. Going into Saskatoon, the Rush franchise had won the last six head to head match-ups, which included a three game sweep in the 2015 season series. For Corey Small, the win was extra satisfying after he put away his former team with a natural hat-trick in the fourth quarter and recorded a total of six points. After spending four seasons in a Rush uniform, Small was traded to the Stealth a year ago today on January 19, 2015. Through 17 games with Vancouver, he has recorded 37 goals and 42 assists for 79 points.

“I hate to say it, but you almost get that feeling that the team didn’t want you, so anytime you get to stick it to them, it feels good. Obviously it is not the goal going into the game, but it is pretty sweet when you think about it afterwards,” said Small on Stealth Classified, the teams weekly radio show.

The five goals he poured in was a career high for the St. Catharines, Ontario native. Entering the 2016 season, the most he scored in a single game was four, which he had done a total of five times.

“It was an amazing team win. Starting the year 0-2 was not in the game plan for us, so to get that first win against the defending champs in their home arena was huge for us and hopefully we can build off it,” Small continued.

The next time Small steps on the floor may possibly be another memorable night. The six-year pro is just four points away from reaching the 300 point plateau on his NLL career.

“Corey catching fire for us against the Rush gave our team a lift. From my perspective, it was great to watch the offense work the ball around so well as a group, which gave Corey some good looks that he capitalized on. He is such an important player for us and was nice to see him do what he did,” said captain Curtis Hodgson.

The Stealth host the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday, January 23 at the Langley Events Centre at 7:00pm PST. The first 1000 fans into the building, will receive a Logan Schuss Bobble head. For tickets, please call 604.882.8800 or visit
