Each season, the Washington Stealth partners with area non-profit organizations to generate awareness and fundraising efforts. The Stealth has announced a partnership with four local organizations that will host events at Stealth home games during the 2012 season.
The Stealth opens its 2012 season on January 14, when the team faces the Calgary Roughnecks at the Comcast Arena at Everett. One of the many events on Opening Night will be a fundraiser for the Red Cross. The Red Cross will be on hand taking monetary donations and distributing information about the organization. There will also be limited edition Red Cross Stealth t-shirts for sale with proceeds going back to the Red Cross as well as a program allowing fans to make text message donations.
Two weeks later, on January 28, the Stealth plays host to the Edmonton Rush for “Hometown Heroes Night”. The evening will also be a continuation of the “Players for Prevention” initiative with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, in which the Stealth has already served as a presenting sponsor for the AFSP’s Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Seattle. The AFSP will be hosting a Launch-A-Ball fundraiser at the game as well as a silent auction with Stealth memorabilia and donations from other sports organizations and companies throughout the area. All the proceeds from the event will go towards the ASFP’s goals of suicide prevention and awareness.
On March 23, when the Stealth takes on the Minnesota Swarm, the Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure will be hosting the third annual “Pink in the Rink” event to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. This year, the “Pink in the Rink” event will be highlighted by an auction of Stealth commemorative pink jerseys. The Stealth will also be organizing a team to participate in Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s Race for the Cure in June.
The final non-profit event of the season will also be an annual event in its third season. On April 20, the Stealth faces the Toronto Rock in a rematch of the last two National Lacrosse League Championship Games. The game will also feature a food drive and fundraiser for Northwest Harvest, the largest provider for food banks in Washington. The Stealth will also be visiting Northwest Harvest Food Banks throughout the fall and winter.
“Stealth fans have demonstrated unity in supporting the team’s non-profit partners, a fact that resulted in record-setting level of donations and funds raised during the team’s 2011 season,” said Stealth President David Takata. “Our 2012 season partners perform vitally important roles in every community of the Puget Sound and the Stealth take great pride in raising awareness and funds for these noble causes.”
