San Jose Stealth first-year forward Rhys Duch earned Rookie of the Week honors from the National Lacrosse League after a seven-point performance against the Colorado Mammoth on February 21.
Duch recorded a hat trick and four assists to help the Stealth secure a 14-9 victory over its West Division rival. It was the highest point total of the season for the #3 overall pick in the 2008 NLL Draft who averages 5.14 points per game.
Duch has tallied 13 goals and 23 assists for 36 points in seven games this season. He is 13th in the NLL in points; tied for 11th in assists and tied for 21st in goals. Duch is second among rookies in scoring, behind Boston’s Daryl Veltman who has recorded 42 points on the year in two more games. The two face off this weekend in the first of a two-game weekend on the East Coast for the Stealth.
San Jose travels to Boston on February 28 to take on the Blazers at the TD Banknorth Garden at 7:30pm. The following night they take on the New York Titans at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Both games can be seen on the NLL Network at NLL.com.
