The National Lacrosse League
(NLL) has announced that the 2009 NLL Entry Draft will be held on Wednesday,
September 9 at 7pm ET in the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY.
The draft will consist of six rounds. The league's eleven member clubs will
select players from the top NCAA programs and Major Junior Lacrosse Leagues in Canada.
The Rochester Knighthawks currently hold the top two selections in this year's
Entry Draft.
The Washington Stealth will not select until the third round of this year’s
draft. Their first round pick was
dealt to Toronto in 2006, in the deal that put Stealth Captain Colin Doyle in
Red and Black. The Stealth does
not hold a second round pick due to the deal that brought Jamison Koesterer to
the squad from the Buffalo Bandits last month.
The Stealth currently hold the 29th and 30th picks of the
draft in the third round. They
also have the 49th pick (5th round) and the 58th
pick (6th round).
Despite not holding a pick until the third round, Stealth President and General
Manager Johnny Mouradian is confident they can find top-notch talent in what is
being touted as one of the deepest drafts in recent memory.
"The number of impact
players coming out of the US and Canada is making this an extremely deep and
exciting draft," said Mouradian. "We are working to move up in the
draft with a trade, but there will undoubtedly be guys in the later rounds that
will challenge our veterans for playing time in January."
The Stealth begin play for the 2010 season on January 9 at the Comcast
Arena. Season tickets are
currently on sale and start at just $75.
