Get to Know the Stealth: Ben Hunt

10/22/2009, 12:23am PDT
By Washington Stealth

Washington Stealth rookie Ben Hunt has been playing lacrosse almost as long as he could hold a stick.  But in December, he will get his first taste of professional indoor lacrosse.

For the past four years, Hunt terrorized opposing defenses as a midfielder for the Tar Heels, recording 98 points in his career.  He was a two-time All-American and All-Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Team selection.  If that’s not enough, he was also an Inside Lacrosse Magazine cover boy (see photo above).

Hunt went on to play in Major League Lacrosse for the Washington Bayhawks and recorded ten points in his rookie campaign.

It’s hard for a 22-year old to figure out what the future may hold.  Hunt is currently finishing school at the University of North Carolina, where he will earn his degree in Communications.  “I want to get into business or public relations,” said the Maryland native.  But he isn’t afraid to shoot for the stars.  “I guess my dream job would be working as a Sportscenter reporter,” he said.

Hunt may also consider coaching the game of lacrosse in the future.  He spent some time last summer as an instructor at clinics all over the country, teaching Washington, D.C. area youth at Bayhawks clinics as well as venturing to California and Texas.   This coming weekend, the Puget Sound will be treated to a visit from Hunt and Stealth teammate Jason Bloom for clinics at The Overlake School in Redmond.

But for now, the 6-foot-5, 230-pounder is focusing on taking his lacrosse game indoors.  His size, strength and athleticism will be a major asset to the Stealth this winter, and so will his enthusiasm.  “I just can’t wait to get to camp and start learning and developing my game,” he said.  “I watched some indoor games as a kid and loved the fast-paced, physical style of the game.”

You’ll have a chance to meet him this weekend at Breakaway Lacrosse from 10-11am on October 24, learn from him at the clinics in Redmond later that day and cheer him on this winter at the Comcast Arena.  But before you do, here are a few questions to help you Get to Know Ben Hunt.
