The Everett Food Bank currently has less than one week of food. With the holiday season upon us, the Food Bank and its patrons need help. The Washington Stealth, the new professional lacrosse team which plays at the Comcast Arena at Everett, are challenging the area’s local businesses to join them in raising funds.
“The fact is, the shelves are bare,” said ChristinFoderberg, Director of Food Bank Services on the Volunteers of Western Washington website (www.voaww.org). “We need help, especially with the holidays coming.” The Everett Food Bank serves over 5,000 individuals each month, half of which are children.
The Stealth have joined forces with the fellow tenants of the Comcast Arena to assist the Everett Food Bank. The Everett Silvertips will be holding an emergency food drive this weekend when they play the rival Seattle Thunderbirds. The Community Ice Rink will also be holding a food drive. The Everett Chamber of Commerce is spreading the word through their members.
”The Stealth are committed to helping our community and taking an active role in this important endeavor,” stated Washington Stealth owner, Denise Watkins. “Families in our area are dependent on the food bank to provide this basic necessity. With supplies at a critical point heading into the holidays, everyone’s help is needed now more than ever.”
Now, the Stealth are looking for support beyond the walls of the Comcast Arena with a challenge to area businesses and corporations. Today, Watkins announced that the Stealth will match the donations to the Everett Food Bank from area businesses to a total of $5,000 by December 31, 2009. On top of that, for every business that donates at least $1,000, they will receive a Stealth gift package including tickets to the Stealth home opener on January 9, 2010.
Join the Stealth in assisting the local community and feeding those in need. A little bit goes a long way. To get involved in the Stealth Corporate Challenge for the Everett Food Bank, please contact Breanna Kernan of the Stealth at (925) 200-6408.
