By Washington Stealth

The Washington Stealth Champion’s Cup Tour began two weeks ago on Vancouver Island with visits to Victoria and Nanaimo.  The Cup’s busy month of June continued with a visit to New Westminster, B.C., and then came a little closer to home with stops in Marysville and Seattle.

On June 10, the Cup made its way around the greater Vancouver area, including a stop in Coquitlam to see Stealth defenseman Travis Gillespie at his fire station in Coquitlam.  Then it was on to New Westminster and an appearance on the historic green wood floor of Queens Park Arena.  The New Westminster Salmonbellies and Maple Ridge Burrards were set for a Western Lacrosse League clash, but prior to the game, the Stealth players and coaches in attendance were recognized.  Maple Ridge players Tyler Codron, Sam Cook and Joel Dalgarno met on the floor with Salmonbellies Tyler Richards, Curtis Hodgson, Matt Roik and Shayne Bennett.  Other members of the Stealth from the area were also on hand: Mike Grimes, Matt Beers, Tom Johnson, Cam Sedgwick, General Manager Doug Locker, Director of Operations Brad Hock and assistant coaches Rick Lum and Dan Stroup.

Following the game, the Champion’s Cup traveled back to Washington.  On June 12, it was on to Marysville for the North Sound Summer League at Strawberry Fields.  Jason Bloom and Jamison Koesterer were on hand along with Locker and Hock for autographs and photos with their young fans.  A day later, Bloom, Koesterer and the Cup went to the Starfire Sports Complex in Seattle for the Seattle Starz tryouts.  Once again, the Cup was on display for photos with some of the area’s top high school lacrosse talent.

The Champion’s Cup Tour has one more stop in June; it will be at Breakaway Sports in Bellevue on Monday, June 21.  In attendance along with the Cup will be Stealth Head Coach Chris Hall, General Manager Doug Locker, Director of Operations Brad Hock, Director of Communications Michael Kennett and players Paul Rabil, Lewis Ratcliff, Jason Bloom, Jamison Koesterer and Chris O’Dougherty.  The event takes place from 4:30pm to 6:00pm and is free and open to the public.  Breakaway Sports is located at 10830 NE 2nd Pl., Bellevue, WA 98004.
