The Washington Stealth added some more depth on the defensive end with the selection of Chet Koneczny and Matt Zash in a dispersal draft of the Orlando Titans roster.  Koneczny was the tenth overall selection in the draft and Zash picked up in the second round (20th overall).

Koneczny, a 26-year old native of Nova Scotia, joined the Orlando Titans roster as a free agent prior to the 2010 season.  He appeared in all 16 regular season games, recording 14 points on two goals and 12 assists and 78 loose balls in his first NLL season.  The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder was originally drafted in by the Toronto Rock in the 2004 NLL Entry Draft and spent time on the Rock’s practice squad in 2005 and 2006.

“Chet is a piece we were looking for going into the dispersal,” said Stealth Head Coach Chris Hall, who envisions Koneczny as a left-handed transition player.  “He has a knack for finding loose balls and can get the ball up the floor.”

Koneczny spent most summers playing in Ontario through the junior and senior ranks.  In 2010, he played in eleven regular season games for the Victoria Shamrocks, where he plays with his new Stealth teammates Rhys Duch, Kory Kowalk and Rhys Jones.

“It seems like the pieces really fit,” said Koneczny on heading to Washington to play for the defending NLL Champions.  “I love the west coast, it’s a great organization and they’ve got a good thing going.  I look forward to meeting and playing with a new group of guys.”

Zash, 26, is a former collegiate lacrosse standout at Duke University entering his fourth season in the NLL.  He played in ten games last season, recording seven points (2g, 5a) and 39 loose balls.  In 2009, he set a career-high with 79 loose balls.  Zash also played for Team USA at the 2007 Indoor World Lacrosse Championships.

“Matt (Zash) is simply an outstanding lacrosse player and has shown his versatility in his three seasons in the Titans organization,” said Stealth General Manager Doug Locker.  “He has been a standout at every level he has played and we are excited to have him in Washington.”

Koneczny and Zash will join the Stealth at training camp this fall.  The Stealth will begin its NLL title defense in January of 2011.  Season tickets start at just $120 and are available at www.stealthlax.com or by calling 877-MY-75-TIX.
