The Washington Stealth continued their activity on the free agent market today as they announced the signings of three more players, pending league approval. Forwards Alex Turner and Tyler Crompton and Defenseman Sam Cook will be joining the defending champions at training camp, which is expected to begin in November.
The Stealth has signed a familiar face in Turner, who was originally drafted by the Stealth with the 32nd overall selection in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft. Turner, 23, appeared in seven games for the Stealth his rookie season, scoring seven goals and adding nine assists. Prior to the 2010 season, the six-foot-one, 210-pound forward was traded to Minnesota where he appeared in one game while spending the majority of the season on the Swarm’s practice roster. Turner’s summers are spent with the Western Lacrosse Association’s Langley Thunder, where he has developed into one of British Columbia’s most potent scorers. The lefty was among the top ten in WLA scoring in each of the last two seasons, posting 59 points (24g, 35a) in 2009 and 61 points (28g, 33a) in 2010.
“Alex is coming off another terrific summer and we are very happy to have him back with the Stealth,” said Locker.
The Stealth also signed second-year forward Tyler Crompton. In his rookie season with the Colorado Mammoth two seasons ago, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound righty tallied 14 points (9g, 5a) and 35 loose balls in 13 games. He was twice named the NLL Rookie of the Week that season. Crompton has recorded at least 20 points in each of the last three summers with the New Westminster Salmonbellies of the WLA. In 2010, he recorded 33 points (19g, 14a).
“Tyler provides us with a do everything and anything type of player,” said Locker. “He is an incredibly hard worker and we have been impressed watching him over the last few months.”
The Stealth has also signed free agent defenseman Sam Cook, who spent the second half of last season on the Stealth’s practice roster. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Cook just completed his fourth season with the Maple Ridge Burrards of the WLA, where he has played in 69 games. He has recorded 32 points (11g, 21a) in that span, including 8 points (2g, 6a) in 17 games in 2010. Cook and the Burrards were recently eliminated in the WLA semifinals by the New Westminster Salmonbellies.
“Sam is a big, strong, athletic player who we feel fits well in our defensive system,” added Locker.
The Stealth begins their title defense in January 2011, with training camp expected to start in November. Season tickets for the 2011 season start at just $120 for a ten-game package and can be purchased at www.stealthlax.com or by calling 877-MY-75-TIX.
