Codron Returns to Stealth for 2011

The Washington Stealth announced today the signing of fourth-year defenseman Tyler Codron for the 2011 season, pending approval by the National Lacrosse League.  Codron returns for his second season with the Stealth after spending the majority of 2010 on the physically unable to perform list.

Codron, 23, is widely regarded as one of the top young defenders in the game today, and he proved it during his first two NLL seasons.  In 2008 and 2009 with the Portland Lumberjax, he emerged as a shut-down defenseman with the speed and athleticism to move the ball up the floor.  He tallied 25 points (8g, 17a) and picked up 158 loose balls in 32 regular season games.

The Stealth acquired Codron prior to the 2010 season along with Lewis Ratcliff and Joel Dalgarno in a trade with the Toronto Rock.  At the time he was sidelined with a knee injury sustained while playing football at the University of British Columbia, but despite that injury, the Port Coquitlam native was ranked #37 on NLL Insider’s Top 50 going into 2010.

Codron recovered from the knee injury in time to join the Stealth in the 2010 regular season finale and went on to play in two playoff games during the Stealth’s championship run.   His presence was felt on the floor, leaving the Stealth organization excited to have him from day one of training camp, which is expected to begin in late fall.

“We are thrilled to have a healthy Tyler Codron at the start of the season,” said Stealth General Manager Doug Locker.  “He adds a big time defender to our lineup that we didn’t have until the playoffs last season.  He is one of the top young defenders in the NLL and a very important piece of our defensive unit this year.”

The Stealth begin their defense of the National Lacrosse League title in January.  Season ticket packages start at just $120 for a ten-game package and are available by calling 877-MY-75-TIX or at www.stealthlax.com.
