The Washington Stealth announced today the signing of recent offseason acquisition Jeff Moleski for the 2011 season, pending league approval. Moleski was traded to the Stealth from West Division rival Calgary last month in exchange for a first round draft pick in the 2011 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.
Moleski played all six seasons of his NLL career with the Calgary Roughnecks, winning the 2009 Championship with the team. During that 2009 season, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound lefty was considered by many to be one of the favorites for the league’s Defenseman of the Year honors. In 2010, he was even better statistically, grabbing 97 loose balls and recording 16 points (6g, 10a) in 16 regular season games. Those totals were second only behind his 2007 campaign, where he posted 108 loose balls and 19 points (9g, 10a).
“Acquiring Jeff Moleski was a very important step in strengthening our defense and obviously we are happy to have him signed for the coming season,” said Stealth General Manager Doug Locker. “In our opinion he is one of the top defenders in the NLL and to add Jeff to our already strong corps of defenders is a big step towards defending our NLL Championship in 2011.”
The Stealth will begin training camp for the 2011 season later this fall. The 2011 season officially begins on January 8, when the Stealth travel to Denver, Colo., to face the Colorado Mammoth. The home opener is the following night, January 9, against the Calgary Roughnecks at the Comcast Arena. Season tickets are on sale now and available by calling 877-MY-75-TIX or at www.stealthlax.com.
