The Washington Stealth announced today the signing of right-handed forward Luke Wiles for the 2011 season, pending league approval.  Wiles is entering his sixth National Lacrosse League season, including five seasons with the Stealth.

Wiles was a major player in the NLL’s highest scoring offense a year ago, tallying 49 points on 24 goals and 25 assists in 15 regular season games.  He also recorded seven points (4g, 3a) in three playoff games, including a four-point (3g, 1a) performance in the West Division Final against the Edmonton Rush.

“Luke’s signing reunites what we feel is one of the top group of right handed offensive players in the league, and having him in camp is going to be a huge benefit for us,” said Stealth General Manager Doug Locker.  “He makes things happen every time he is on the floor and we look forward to big things from him in 2011.”

Wiles, a native of Orillia, Ontario, was the 4th overall draft pick in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Wings.  He was traded to the Stealth midway through the 2006 season and finished the year with 49 points (23g, 26a) en route to NLL All-Rookie Team honors.  He played the following two seasons with the Stealth, leading the squad with a career-high 82 points (30g, 52a) in 2007.  Wiles spent the 2009 season with the Toronto Rock before being traded back to the Stealth prior to the 2010 season.  In 75 career regular season games, he has recorded 303 points (130g, 173a).

Wiles spent the summer of 2010 playing with the Kahnawake Mohawks in Canada’s Senior ‘B’ circuit.  He led the Mohawks to a bronze medal in the President’s Cup, with a tournament-high 36 points (13g, 23a) in seven games.  In 2009, Wiles played alongside Stealth teammates Rhys Duch and Lewis Ratcliff for the Victoria Shamrocks of the Western Lacrosse Association, the trio recording 275 points combined for the WLA’s highest scoring offense.  Wiles earned second-team All-Star honors after finishing fourth scoring with 75 points (38g, 37a) in 16 regular season games.

The Stealth opens training camp for the 2011 season this weekend as they prepare to defend their NLL Championship.  The 2011 regular season begins on January 8, when the Stealth travels to Denver, Colo., to face the Colorado Mammoth.  The home schedule starts the following evening when the Calgary Roughnecks visit the Comcast Arena.  Tickets are on sale now and available by calling 877-MY-75-TIX or at www.stealthlax.com
