With two training camp weekends in the books, there’s still some work to do for Stealth Head Coach Chris Hall and his coaching staff as they look to finalize the 23-man active roster and three-man practice squad before the National Lacrosse League’s December 23 deadline. It’s been a spirited camp thus far and the final weekend will be even more so, as 29 remaining players have three more practices to earn the right to play for the defending champs.
Last weekend’s training camp gave the coaching staff the chance to see the players in live game action during a scrimmage with the Colorado Mammoth, which the Stealth won 15-13. Coach Hall was pleased with the Stealth’s showing in the scrimmage, saying, “Tonight was good for us. It gave the guys an opportunity to get more comfortable with one another and gave the coaches the chance to see the new guys in a game situation. We have a better sense of what we need to work on before the season gets underway.”
The coaching staff has two primary goals heading into this weekend’s camp, the last sessions before the Stealth travels to Colorado on January 8 for the 2011 season opener. First, the coaches need to make the final cuts and solidify the regular season roster. Next, the staff must implement the offensive and defensive schemes in preparation for the start of the season. Once the new year arrives, the Stealth will be thrust into the 2011 season with back-to-back games on the first weekend.
There are no remaining practice sessions open to the public this weekend, so fans will have to wait until January 9 to see the Stealth again at the Comcast Arena. It’s “Champion’s Night” as the Stealth raises the 2010 NLL Championship banner and is presented with championship rings. Tickets for the entire 2011 season are on sale now and available by calling 877-MY-75-TIX or at www.stealthlax.com.
