Washington Stealth Defensemen Chris McElroy and Chris O’Dougherty, along with rookie forward Brett Hickey took time out of their preparation for this weekend’s game in Rochester to spend time with the students of Silver Lake Elementary in Everett on Monday morning.
The morning began with a full-school assembly of over 400 students where McElroy, O’Dougherty and Hickey were joined by the always-entertaining Stealth mascot, Bomber the Fox. The Stealth stars spoke to the students about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. They also showed off some of their lacrosse skills.
After the assembly Bomber, McElroy, O’Dougherty and Hickey brought the fourth and fifth graders of Silver Lake Elementary outside to test their own lacrosse skills. As always McElroy, O’Dougherty and Hickey stayed behind afterwards to sign autographs for their young fans.
The Washington Stealth and the Everett School District have had a close relationship since the team moved to Everett in 2009. Silver Lake Elementary is full of Stealth fans and several season ticket holders among both the students and faculty. One of the season ticket holders is Silver Lake Elementary Support Staff Member Tammy Punkiewicz.
“I love lacrosse, I have been a fan of the game for years and the first thing I noticed about the team is how gracious they are with the fans,” Punkiewicz said. “They always stop whatever they’re doing to sign autographs for the kids, and when they won the Championship two years ago, the first thing they did was come and celebrate with the fans.”
The Stealth players are always excited to visit the Everett community that has supported them during their two and half seasons in the area.
“We have a special bond with the schools in Everett because this is our home too,” said O’Dougherty. “When we show up the kids know our names and it really brings a smile to my face. As the sport grows so does the support within the community of Everett.”
The Silver Lake Elementary School Choir will team up with the Choir of another Everett school, Eisenhower Middle School, to sing the National Anthem before the March 11 game against the Minnesota Swarm.
During that game on March 11, Stealth Mascot Bomber the Fox will be joined by his friends Blitz of the Seattle Seahawks, Lincoln the Bear of the Everett Silvertips, Webbly the Frog of the Everett Aquasox and several others to Celebrate Mascot Madness night at Comcast Arena.
Tickets for the March 11 Mascot Madness against the Minnesota Swarm are on sale now at www.stealthlax.com, by calling 877-MY-75-TIX or at the Comcast Arena Box Office.
