The Washington Stealth completed a trade today that sends fifth-year transition player Kyle Hartzell to the Philadelphia Wings in exchange for the 23rd pick in the upcoming 2012 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft. The acquisition of the third round pick gives the Stealth five of the first 23 selections in the draft, which will be held on October 1 in Toronto.
“This is a good trade for all parties,” said Stealth General Manager Doug Locker. “Kyle gets to play closer to home and the Stealth gets another early draft pick in a deep NLL Entry Draft.”
The Stealth now holds picks number, 11, 12, 19, 21 and 23 in the first three rounds of the draft. The Stealth also holds the 30th (fourth round) and 48th (sixth round) selections in 2012. The two teams swapped fifth round picks in today’s trade; the Stealth receiving a 2013 fifth rounder in exchange for this year’s fifth round selection (39th overall).
Hartzell spent all four seasons of his NLL career with the Stealth after being signed by the Stealth as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2009 season. The Dundalk, Md., native returns to the East Coast to play for the Wings.
“Kyle’s made an impact for the Stealth for four years and he’ll continue to do so in Philadelphia,” added Locker. “We thank him for his efforts over the last four seasons and all the best moving forward.”
The Stealth will see Hartzell twice during the 2013 season, as the Stealth travels to Philadelphia on March 9 followed by a rematch at the Comcast Arena in the regular season finale on April 20. The 2013 regular season gets underway on January 5 when the Stealth plays host to the defending NLL Champion Rochester Knighthawks.
