For the fourth consecutive season the Washington Stealth and Northwest Harvest are teaming up to battle hunger around the Puget Sound with food drives on April 10th and 13th. Northwest Harvest will be the featured nonprofit partner when the Stealth host the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday, April 13th at the Comcast Arena.
On Wednesday, April 10th Stealth players along with team mascot Bomber the Fox will join Northwest Harvest volunteers for a drive-up donation event in front of the Comcast Arena in Everett. From 7am to 9am, volunteers will collect both food and monetary donations on Broadway Avenue as motorists head to work. Those who donate will receive a ticket voucher for the April 13th game against the Buffalo Bandits, which may be redeemed in the Stealth front office on April 10th or 11th.
The second food drive will take place at the game on April 13th where representatives will accept cash and food donations on the main concourse. Doors will open at 5:15pm and volunteers from Northwest Harvest will be on hand to talk to fans.
“The ongoing support of the Washington Stealth and its fans is crucial in the fight against hunger,” said Andrea Flatley, Northwest Harvest’s communication manager. “Last year you helped provide more than 28,500 meals to hungry people in Washington and we hope to exceed that success this year."
Northwest Harvest is the only non-profit food bank distribution center operating statewide in Washington with a network of over 350 food banks, meal programs and at-risk elementary schools. Over fifty percent of the food distributed goes to feed children and the elderly. The need for donations has increased dramatically in recent years with Northwest Harvest distributing a record 26 million pounds of food last year, up from 17 million pounds just four years ago.
