(Vancouver, BC – Thursday, November 7, 2013) – The Vancouver Stealth announced that they have re-signed defensemen Curtis Hodgson and goaltender Matt Roik to one year contracts for the 2014 season, pending league approval. Hodgson is entering his 10th season with the team while Roik enters his 13th season in the NLL and 5th season as a member of the Stealth.
After 9 seasons in the NLL Hodgson is heading back to where it all began. He grew up playing lacrosse in Burnaby, BC where he won two Minto Cups with the Burnaby Junior ‘A’ Lakers in 2000 and 2002 and he couldn’t be happier about the opportunity of coming home to play the sport he loves,
“I’ve been with the Stealth my whole career and to get a chance to play back in Vancouver is exciting, I feel like things have come full circle,” said Hodgson.
“It’s also a chance for me to play with the same core group of guys and to continue to be a part of the Stealth family.”
Hodgson is also looking forward to seeing some familiar faces in the crowd along with the support from the local communities,
“There’s a little more attention on lacrosse in British Columbia and it will be exciting to get a chance to play in front of family and friends,” said Hodgson.
Roik is also looking forward to the opportunity of playing in a Canadian market once again as the Dunnville, Ontario native knows what it means to play lacrosse in Canada,
“It’s a privilege to be able to play in Canada and to be a part of a franchise that has great ownership with the Watkins family as they’ve treated us like a family,” said Roik.
“So it’s quite special and to be here in Vancouver, in one of the hot beds of lacrosse is an added bonus.”
Roik spent a season playing in Canada as a member of the Toronto Rock back in 2012, appearing in 10 games posting a 4-4 record and a 12.52 goals against average. It’s the experience Roik brings that makes him so valuable to the Stealth, in his 12 year career he’s played in 161 regular season games and has a record of 47 wins and 52 losses,
“Matt brings significant experience to our club and is someone we have a great deal of confidence in,” said President and General Manager Doug Locker.
When Locker spoke about Hodgson he again discussed the level of experience that he brings having played 8 seasons and he has appeared in a franchise high 157 total games in a Stealth uniform,
“Curtis has been with the Stealth organization his entire career and to now have him playing close to home is special. He brings leadership, experience and commitment to the organization that is very important for us to have in our room,” said Locker.
Experience and support wherever the coaching staff puts them is something both Hodgson and Roik are prepared to do as the season nears,
“I’m kind of a cagey veteran on the team, I’m hoping to be in any role the coaches put me in,” said Hodgson.
The 2014 season begins in Colorado on January 4th followed by the Stealth’s home opener at the Langley Events Centre on January 11th against the Minnesota Swarm.
