Vancouver, BC – The Vancouver Stealth (2-1) climb all the way back to beat the Colorado Mammoth (1-4) by a score of 14-13 in sudden death overtime on Friday night. The Stealth’s Lewis Ratcliff sealed the deal about two minutes into overtime with a goal just before the shot clock expired to give the Stealth a huge come from behind victory.
“The finish was unbelievable,” said Stealth Head Coach, Chris Hall.
“But it’s not untypical of this league, games are tight and tense.”
The Stealth didn’t get off to the start they were looking for but never quit fighting, as they were down 4-1 early in the first period. The Mammoth led most of the way with a stellar performance from John Grant Jr who had 3 goals and 3 assists and was named first star.
There was one deciding factor the Mammoth couldn’t predict as the Stealth crowd proved to be a difference maker once again. Coach Hall definitely felt the energy of the home crowd and gave them praise following the game,
“The crowd provided energy for us tonight and we didn’t want to disappoint them,” said Coach Hall.
“We fought hard to get back into this game. I think I lost track of how many times we had to climb back into this game, but there’s no question the fans were fantastic and kept us motivated.”
The Stealth played with a never say die attitude and were able to pull out a huge victory for their home crowd. The home crowd has made quite the impact on the Stealth’s first two home games at the LEC, as the Stealth are now 2-0 at their new home.
The power play also helped with the comeback tonight, as the Stealth took advantage of some undisciplined penalties from the Mammoth at the end of the game. The Stealth scored 5 goals on the power play and 2 in the fourth quarter.
In overtime, both teams had their opportunities to win it, and the Mammoth’s Adam Jones came oh so close to ending it, but the goal was disallowed after further review. The no-goal for the Mammoth paved the way for an epic finish, as Lewis Ratcliff scored an amazing goal, just as the shot clock expired to win the game in overtime.
Ratcliff led the way for the Stealth netting 2 goals and 5 assists on the night, including the overtime winner. It was also another strong performance from both Stealth rookies Tyler Digby and Cody Bremner. Digby had 3 goals and Bremner added 3 goals and 3 assists.
After a big win tonight the Stealth will look to take their momentum into Calgary tomorrow night when they face the Roughnecks in the second game of a back-to-back. Game time is 6PM PST as the Stealth look for their third win in a row.
