(Vancouver, BC – Tuesday, February 18, 2014) – The Vancouver Stealth’s Brett Bucktooth has been named the NLL’s First Star of the week for week eight of the NLL’s 2014 season. Bucktooth grabbed an impressive nine goals and seven assists, in two games this past weekend.

Bucktooth has only been back in the Stealth lineup for three games this season but he’s already making an early impact to his team,

“We’ve been suffering a little bit on our offense and I think a large part of that was missing Brett,” said Stealth head coach, Chris Hall.

“He was the point man on our power play last year and was a major factor on the right side of our offense. What he’s contributed so far, I think it’s obvious that we missed him.”

This past weekend Bucktooth was unstoppable at times and in particular in the game on Friday night (February 14) against the Colorado Mammoth. Bucktooth was in on every goal but two in the first quarter, totaling seven points (2 goals, 5 assists) in the opening 15 minutes. He finished the game with six goals and six assists in the game and was named the first star,

“He had a spectacular game in Colorado, in a game that we had to win,” said coach Hall.

“Twelve points is a big night in our league and he earned every one of them.”

The ability to produce goals is just one of the many things Bucktooth brings to the Stealth and it’s clear they’re a more complete team with him in the lineup,

“He also brings a calming influence, a ton of experience and great knowledge of the game. I think we’ve missed his leadership. So it’s really good to have him back,” said coach Hall.

The seven year veteran has clearly brought some balance to the Stealth’s scoring in their last few games, but Bucktooth knows for his team to be successful moving forward it has to happen more consistently,

“I think when we stick to our systems and we share the ball unselfishly we see what we are capable of doing,” said Bucktooth.

“On a good night when things are going our way it shows what we are capable of, we just need to focus on those positives and carry them into every game.”

Bucktooth and the Stealth have some time off over the next couple weeks before heading into Edmonton on March 8. This will give the team time to heal and prepare for a big game with the NLL’s hottest team. The Rush are 7-0 this season but one of their closer games so far came against the Stealth as they squeaked out a 9-8 victory at the LEC back on January 25.

After a couple of weeks off the Stealth will have an even more important stretch at home coming up, as they play three straight games at the Langley Events Centre. The Stealth are 2-2 at the LEC this year and will be looking to improve that record when their three game home stretch begins on March 21 against the Calgary Roughnecks.
