(Vancouver, BC – April 1, 2014) – The Vancouver Stealth’s Rhys Duch has been named the National Lacrosse League’s First Star of the Week for week fourteen of the 2014 season. Duch scored four goals and four assists against the Buffalo Bandits this past weekend to lead the Stealth to their fourth victory of the season.
The big weekend for Duch came at the perfect time, as the Stealth move one step closer to tying Colorado for the final playoff spot in the Western Division,
“We did a lot of the big things right this weekend and we now have things to build off of,” said Duch.
“We talked about how important a quick start would be and we answered the bell. From our coaching staff right down to our captains we were ready to go.”
This past weekend ended up being special in more ways than one for Duch and the Stealth, as Duch reached 500 career NLL regular season points and the Stealth organization raised over $13,365 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Duch entered last weekend’s game at 496 points and reached the milestone of 500 points before the end of the first half against the Bandits. He currently leads the Stealth in every offensive category this season, totaling 30 goals and 34 assists for 64 points. He’s also the Stealth’s all-time leader for assists with 286, and is second in goals (218) and total points (504).
The Stealth’s win over the weekend puts them right back into the playoff race but Duch knows in order for the team to keep pace they need to be consistent game in and game out,
“It’s the first win of many, hopefully. We did a lot of things right but there’s still room for improvement,” said Duch.
“Overall, it was our most collective full game.”
Duch and the Stealth will take to their home turf again this weekend when they host Garrett Billings, Colin Doyle and the Toronto Rock on Saturday, April 5, at 7:00PM PST.
Also don’t miss the Stealth Pre-Game Festival starting at 4:00PM PST, with Triple O’s, a Live DJ provided by the Joseph Richards Group and catch the East coast NLL game between the Calgary Roughnecks and the Buffalo Bandits, on the big screen.
