Vancouver, BC (Thursday, July 31) – The Vancouver Stealth have announced the team has made qualifying offers to three players who have each won an NLL Championship and played an integral role in the organization.
The team has made offers to leading scorer Rhys Duch, along with defensemen Matt Beers and Mike Grimes, avoiding restricted free agency before the July 31 deadline.
Duch, 28, has spent his entire six year career with the Stealth since being drafted third overall by the team in 2008. He sits atop, or near the top of the Stealth record book in multiple categories, including being second in career points (520) and goals (224). Duch is also the Stealth’s all-time leader in assists (296). The Victoria, BC native holds the franchise record for most points in a single postseason when he scored 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) guiding the Stealth to its’ first ever Champions Cup.
Grimes, fresh off his eighth season in the NLL is one of team’s most reliable defenders, and has been since being drafted eighth overall by the Arizona Sting in the 2008 Dispersal Draft. The 28 year old Peterborough, Ontario native had a career high 22 points last season (5 goals, 17 assists). Grimes has played in eleven career playoff games, all with the Stealth recorded 12 points (2 goals, 10 assists), 67 loose balls and forced ten turnovers. He’s also played in three NLL Champion’s Cups with the Stealth, winning the championship in 2010.
Beers was drafted by the Stealth in 2010 and made an immediate impact in his rookie year picking up 90 loose balls and scoring 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) in fifteen games en route to an NLL title. The 24 year old from Coquitlam, BC set a career high with 70 penalty minutes and forced 23 turnovers last season.
